Hi all!

It's been quite a while since we've had another round of thestopwatch. I've been thinking a lot about the community lately, and I think it would be quite a shame to let the community die off as both rounds of thestopwatch has produced some fantastic Jack/Ianto fic. A lot of things have changed with Torchwood - some good, some bad, some really bad. But that shouldn't stop us from writing about Jack and Ianto and remembering why we fell in love with them in the first place.

I'm not quite sure which direction to go if a third round of thestopwatch does come to fruition. I've set up a poll to get a better gauge of who's interested and if a third round is viable, so if you guys could please fill it out, that would be fantastic. It'll also help direct me on what type of fest should be done for the next round.

Summary: Christmas stopped being a time of peace and good will for Captain Jack Harkness a long time ago. Nursing old wounds and growing bitterer by the day, Jack turns slowly into a miserable, old man. Christmas Eve turns around and Jack prepares to spend the night alone and indulging in self-pity. However, unbeknownst to Jack there are other powers at work that night and they are set on helping him learn the error of his ways and make peace with his past in order to look forward to the future.

I don’t own the original ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens, please be aware that there are points of dialogue that I have directly lifted from the text. I also do not own ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol’ (Oh, woe is me. D=), which also heavily influenced this story. And finally I own neither Torchwood nor Doctor Who.

Author's Notes: Basically I hope that people enjoy this. I saw the prompt and thought it would be a really, really fun one to try and apply to Torchwood. I’ve tried to stick to canon as much as possible, and my justification for the future sequence that you will see is that it happened before the events of Reset and therefore at that point in time was still plausible. XD I’ve tried my best to do this awesome prompt justice and I just generally hope that you like it. <3
